(For Stuy!) 4. Rate the test. How much harder is it than 8th grade? Any practice tests? Thanks, ily you guys! = Oh yea, an additional question.
What EXACTLY is the Summer Discovery Program? Like what do you DO there?
Best Answer: lol dude, u and me gotta work hard for this test. About 30 ppl get selected, and about 2,000 ppl take the test. We gotta read trigonometry and stuff like graphing, and inequalities.
When my bro got into stuy, i went to the open house and they were selling workbooks there on integrated 9th grade mathematics, my dad bought 3 and i plan on studying those, since that stuffs onna be on the test. I might review some English to, maybe do some reading comp adn scrambled paragraphs. And of course do some speed drills to improve confidence of test day. The cutoff score is gonna b rlly high since so few ppl are getting accepted.
Just remember, if you do well in 9th grade math at school, you will do well on the shsat. Lol I didn't do so hot either. I was so close to getting into stuy though lol. I'm planning to audition for Laguardia next year (if I can) and I'm preparing right now (am I crazy or what). Stuy is very difficult you know. Only 6 people in my school got in. Also, it is no different than 8th grade SHSAT.
The only thing that has changed is the difficulty. Math is pretty much covering 8th grade and 9th grade math. Reading is a little harder, logic stays the same, scrambled I'm not sure but they are so easy! The discovery program is a summer program for those who scored very close to the cutoff of their desired school but did not receive entrance. The requirements are 1. Have scored close to the admission cut-off score on the SHSAT; and 2. Be certified as disadvantaged by their middle school according to any one of the following criteria: a.
Attend a Title 1 school and be from a family whose total income is documented as meeting federal income eligibility guidelines established for school food services by the NYS Department of Agriculture; or b. Be receiving assistance from the Human Resources Administration; or c. Be a member of a family whose income is documented as being equivalent to or below Department of Social Services standards; or d. Be a foster child or ward of the state; or e. Initially have entered the United States within the last four years and live in a home in which the language customarily spoken is not English; and 3.
Be recommended by their local school as having high potential for the special high school program. Now for the 9th grade shsat, about 2000 kids take the test. It focuses on trigonometry I believe. It is very hard to get into Stuyvesant on the 9th grade SHSAT so start preparing right now. Sorry that you did not get into stuy, maybe I will see you in the tenth grade:).
Its basically the same stuff as the 8th grade one. You took the one in 8th, so you know basically all the stuff thats on it 2. There is not really a best one, but kaplan and princeton and pretty good 3. I go to stuy, but the scores change and so do the incoming students.
Each year more students come in, but our principal is trying to stop that and keep it somewhere in the 800's 4. Its the easiest thing ever because there aren't any trick questions.
It's all stuff we learned in like 7th grade 5. I didn't take it in during 9th grade, but my friends say it was basically the same thing 6. Yea, just do the ones in the book And there are so many people who reject these schools because it might be too far from their house or they didn't get into their first choice.
Plus, i know like stuy gives metrocards to people who live like a certain distance away but there are so many people who live pretty far from the school and don't get metrocards cuz they don't fall under the catagory, and so they just can't afford to go there. Anyways, I hope you do better on the 9th grade one. Best of luck:). There's a math section and an english section.
In English, there's scrambled paragraphs. They give you several paragraphs, and you have to put them in the correct order. There's some logic questions. If blorps are bleeps and bleeps are blops, what's blorps? (ugh, hate those). In the math part, it's just all-around math. Fractions, algebra, etc.
Your school should have given you a handbook that has practice tests and some info. Here's one link for a book: (Personally, I wouldn't bother spending money on a book like that. It probably won't help much.) 3. The number changes every year. But if I remember when I took it, it was about 200. You mean 10 being the hardest? I thought the worst part was the amount of time given.
I couldn't finish it. I think it was a little harder than what I did in 8th grade. But it depends on what school you go to, what classes you're in, etc. There should be one in the handbook I mentioned earlier. You might be able to find one on the NYC board of education website.
I have no idea what the discovery program is. It sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't remember what it is. My advice to you is don't stress!!
Just take it easy on test day. Edit: I just realized you meant the 9th grade test.
Sorry, didn't see that part. I didn't take it in 9th grade, so I don't know much about that test. But I know they take much less people than 8th grade. Sorry I couldn't help more! They don't sell books for the 9th grade test.
Stuff like trigonometry and algebra. There might be geometry. The english will more or so be the same just much harder.about 700 students probably get in. The test id much harder then the eight grade one. In difficulty the test is like a 8.5 You'll just have to get regular books and study.

The summer discovery program helps you get into a school. Say you just missed the cutoff but the school has a seat you go to the program and get into the school. So I took the 9th grade specialized high school test today and I didn't see any Trig questions! All I seen were Algebra's and Geometry's (most of the topic are from geometry. Like similarities in triangle, rotation, distance)., quadratic equation, proportions, unit rate, solving equations and stuff like that. I would recommend focus on the topics you're learning in 8th grade, it'll come in handy and study them over summer.
For 8th graders, it's the same, focus on algebra and geometry like inequalities and stuff like that. Tell us some more. Upload in Progress. Upload failed. Please upload a file larger than 100x100 pixels.
